DIY SOS – Roots Foundation

Published on Nov 15, 2017

Family Housing Association was very lucky and honoured to be able to assist with the recent DIY SOS Big Build in Swansea! The team came together to assist the Roots Foundation Wales charity on re-building their Swansea community centre.

The Roots Foundation Wales is an independent charity led by a Volunteer Management Committee, who have an understanding of the issues, needs and barriers for young people leaving care. Their aim is to provide support, assistance and advice for young people leaving care, and individuals who have left care.   Many young people in care lack essential skills and a good support network and can often feel lonely and isolated once they have left their placements, many young people get into problems with debt once they have left care or become involved in unhealthy relationships.  The Roots Foundation Wales aims to be involved in the lives of these individuals for as long as needs be and for as long as the client desires.

The volunteers from Family Housing collaborated with other companies to assist in the build of a brand new and improved community centre, this included painting & decorating, carpentry, electrics, kitchen fitting, landscaping, down to moving rubble in wheel barrows! It was an amazing experience to be a part of and we are very proud of everyone who took part and the generosity of everyone involved was very overwhelming.

We would like to wish the Roots Foundation Wales the very best for their future in their new Swansea base.
